The gearbox is removed from underneath the vehicle.
Removal
Place the car on a lift.
Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
Disconnect the wires from the reverse light switch.
Loosen the upper bolts securing the clutch housing to the engine block.
Disconnect the flexible speedometer drive shaft from the gearbox
Loosen the tension on the clutch cable and disconnect it from the lever on the gearbox.
Bend the support plate on the coolant hose upward.
Remove the upper engine mount bracket.
Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold flange and from the pipe mounting bracket to the gearbox.
Disconnect the rear muffler pipe from the suspension bracket.
Remove the muffler pipe assembly.
Disconnect the front wheel drive shafts from the differential output shaft flanges.
Loosen the lower left bolt securing the gearbox to the engine block.
Remove the middle engine mount bracket.
Remove the lower clutch housing cover.
Disconnect the tie rod joint from the gear shift lever.
After disconnecting the ball head, remove the gear shift lever.
Unscrew bolts 1 and 2 (see photo) and move the gearbox suspension crossmember back.
Remove silent block 3 and the front gearbox suspension bracket.
Unscrew the remaining lower bolts securing the clutch housing to the engine block.
Separate the gearbox from the engine using a pry bar.
Remove the gearbox with the help of an assistant.
Installation
The gearbox is installed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- before installing the gearbox, make sure that the clutch slave disk is correctly centered and apply a thin layer of grease to the splines of the gearbox input shaft;
- when performing work, take precautions to avoid damaging the starter armature shaft;
- install the lower clutch housing cover;
- install the wheel drives onto the differential output shaft flanges. Tighten the mounting bolts completely before installing the muffler pipe assembly;
- tighten the bolts securing the gearbox suspension crossmember to the body last, after first centering the silent block relative to the gearbox housing;
- secure the bolt securing the rod to the gear shift lever with wire;
- after installing the gearbox, adjust the gear shift drive and the free travel of the clutch pedal.
