Until the 1980 model year, the YP and YZ engines were equipped with a contact ignition system. The engine ignition system is battery-operated, contact, with a nominal voltage of 12 V. It consists of an ignition distributor with a vacuum regulator of ignition advance and retardation and with a centrifugal regulator of ignition advance, an ignition coil, spark plugs and high-voltage wires.
