Removal and installation

Note: Subframe installation details are shown on illustrations 1.2a.

1. Place the car on a lift and remove the rear wheels.

2. Remove the rear part of the exhaust system (see Chapter 4).

3. Disconnect all electrical wiring between the body and the rear suspension.

4. On models with air suspension, clean the area around the air tube connection and disconnect them on both sides (see illustration).

9.4. Pneumatic tube connection.

5. Disconnect the parking brake cables from the rear suspension (see Chapter 8).

6. Disconnect the propeller shaft from the rear final drive and tie it up (see Chapter 7).

7. Remove the calipers (1 in illustration 10.3 Chapter 7) and hang them on the brake line brackets (3) using wire (2). If present, remove the stone guard from the subframe.

8. Secure the vehicle on a lift to prevent it from tipping over. Attach the supports to the coordinate table as shown in the illustration.

9.8. Supports on the coordinate table.

Use a marker to mark the position of the subframe relative to the body.

Lower the subframe completely.

12. Installation is carried out in reverse order. To secure the subframe, use its old bolts. They should be replaced after checking the wheel alignment angles. After installation, adjust the parking brake (see Chapter 8) and use the base position to adjust the headlight range.

Fixing the subframe

13. Some repair procedures require removal of the subframe or the entire rear suspension. The original position of the subframe relative to the body can be achieved by installing T10300 centering pins before lowering the subframe or the entire rear suspension.

14. Remove the bolts (see illustration) and screw in the T10300 centering pins instead by hand up to the marks (And in illustration 3.26).

9.14. Rear subframe mounting bolts.

9.14. Rear subframe mounting bolts.

Then tighten them to 30 Nm, holding the bushing flats with an open-end wrench to prevent them from turning.

15. Removal of the centering pins is carried out in reverse order.
