Note: Brake pads should be replaced in pairs and on both wheels of the same axle at the same time. The brake discs should also be replaced on both wheels of the same axle; when replacing brake discs, the brake pads should also be replaced.


Note: If the pads are not being removed for replacement, i.e. will be reinstalled, mark them before removal so that they can be reinstalled in their original locations.


1LF brake mechanisms



1. The front brake mechanism parts of 1LF are shown in the illustration.

Replacing brake pads



2. Jack up the car, place it on reliable supports and remove the front wheel (see Introduction).

3. Disconnect the connector (1 in the illustration) pad wear sensor, remove the cap (2) and release the sensor wiring.

4. Unscrew the bolt (see illustration).

5. Press the retaining spring inward in the direction of the arrow (see illustration), and at the same time pull out the retaining pin (1).

Pull the brake pad wear sensor wiring out of the caliper housing and out of the retaining spring. Remove the retaining spring, push the pads away from the disc and remove them from the caliper. Make sure that no brake fluid leaks from the reservoir; pump it out if necessary. If the brake pads are to be replaced, carefully remove the sensor and its wiring, inspect them, and, if they are not damaged, save them for installation on the new pads.



6. Press the pistons into the caliper, monitoring the brake fluid level. Carefully install the sensors with wiring onto the new pads. Insert the pads into the caliper and install the retaining spring (1 in the illustration).

Place the sensor wiring under the retaining spring tab and into the caliper body (arrows).

7. Press the retaining spring inward and insert the retaining pin until it stops. Make sure the flat sides of the pin are seated correctly in the caliper body (prevent the pin from turning).

8. Tighten the bolt (see illustration 2.4)

9. Connect the connector (1 in illustration 2.3) sensor on the bracket on the steering knuckle, secure the sensor wiring to the bleed valve with a cap.

10. Install the wheel. With the vehicle stationary, press the brake pedal firmly several times until the brake pads are in working position. Correct the brake fluid level.

11. Remove the wheel.

12. Connect a hose to the bleed nipple, lower the other end into a container to collect the brake fluid and open the nipple.

13. Ask an assistant to depress the brake pedal and hold it in this position. You can also use a pedal pusher.



14. At the same time, the valves in the brake master cylinder close, and the liquid will not flow out of the reservoir.

15. Close the bleed screw and disconnect the brake fluid hose from the caliper.

16. Remove the bracket from the steering knuckle (7 in illustration 2.1) and remove the brake pads (see subsection above).

17. Unscrew the caliper mounting bolts and remove it.

18. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Finally, bleed the brake hydraulic system.

Brakes 1LT/1LU

20. Jack up the car, place it on reliable supports and remove the front wheel (see Introduction).

21. Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor connector and release the sensor wiring from the spring in the caliper. Release the brake hose from the bracket on the steering knuckle. Lightly press the pistons against the installed pads.

Caution: Do not loosen the caliper mounting bolts on the adapter plate.


Remove the caliper from the disc and hang it on a wire on the body. If complete removal of the caliper is required, disconnect the hose from it.

23. Press the pads out of the caliper with a screwdriver (see illustration), avoiding damage to the dust boots, and then separate the pads from the retaining springs.

24. Clean the caliper with methylated spirits or a special brake cleaner. Remove the protective coating from the pads.

25. Press the pistons into the caliper, monitoring the brake fluid level and removing it if necessary. Install the two pad retaining springs into the caliper and ensure they are seated correctly.
Note: The long part of the springs should face the center of the caliper. Install the sensor wiring retaining spring into the center of the caliper with it facing outward.




26. Install the pads into the caliper and slide them onto the 4 retaining pins (see illustration).

27. Make sure that the 4 contact surfaces of the springs lie on the pads (see illustration).

Carefully lower the caliper onto the disc.

28. Replace damaged caliper mounting bolts. Clean the bolt serrations and tighten them to 270 Nm.

29. Further installation is carried out in reverse order. Finally, with the vehicle stationary, press the brake pedal firmly several times until the pads reach their working position. Correct the brake fluid level. If the brake lines were disconnected, bleed the brake hydraulic system.

Brakes 1LW/1LN

Replacing brake pads



31. Jack up the car, place it on reliable supports and remove the front wheel (see Introduction).

32. Rotate the brake pad wear sensor in the holder, disconnect the sensor wiring and release it from the holder.

33. Pull out the clamps (3 in the illustration) pins (2 and 4).

Press pin (2) through the caliper from the outside in, then pull pin (4) through the caliper from the outside in. Remove the spring (5), holding your hand over it so that the spring does not jump out.

34. Press the pistons into the caliper, resting against the pads installed. At the same time, make sure that the brake fluid does not spill out of the reservoir; pump it out if necessary.

35. Remove the pads. Clean the caliper with methylated spirits or a special brake cleaner. Remove the protective coating from the pads.

36. Press the pistons into the caliper, monitoring the brake fluid level; if necessary, pump it out. Install the pads into the caliper. The pads with wear sensors are installed inside. The beveled sides of the pads should face downwards.

37. Further installation is carried out in reverse order. Finally, with the vehicle stationary, press the brake pedal firmly several times until the pads reach their working position. Correct the brake fluid level. If the brake lines were disconnected, bleed the brake hydraulic system.

38. Ask an assistant to depress the brake pedal and hold it in this position. You can also use a pedal pusher.

39. Remove the wheel.

40. Connect a hose to the bleed nipple, lower the other end into a container to collect the brake fluid and open the nipple to relieve the pressure. Close the nipple.

41. Remove the pads (see subsection above).

42. Disconnect the brake fluid line from the caliper. If present, remove the holder from the caliper (4 in illustration 2.30). Unscrew the bolts (3) and remove the caliper. If necessary, unscrew the bolt (8) and remove the disc.

43. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Finally, bleed the brake hydraulic system.
