1. Eliminate the cause of the damage before starting to repair the wiring harness, such as chafing against sharp corners of the car body, a faulty consumer, corrosion, etc.

2. Repair of airbag wires and shielded wires, such as wheel speed sensors or detonation sensors, is not permitted.

3. Repair damaged wires only with the appropriate wire with yellow insulation. It is possible to use a wire with insulation of a different color, but in this case, wrap the repaired area with yellow insulating tape.

4. Perform a circuit or consumer function test after repair. If necessary, contact a workshop to read the codes of registered faults and check the electrical system settings.

Repair of ABS wires should be entrusted to a specialized workshop.

When restoring the wiring harness, be sure to follow the sequence and method specified in this chapter. The example given is the repair of electrical wiring with a cross-section of 0.35 mm².

5. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal from the battery.

Attention! When disconnecting the battery, data is deleted from the electronic units of some control systems, for example, the security code from the radio. Without subsequent entry of the code, the receiver will not work. It can only be turned on by contacting the manufacturer or an AUDI workshop.

To repair a damaged electrical wire with a cross-section of 0.35 mm², you will need a piece of wire with a cross-section of 0.5 mm².

6. Remove the insulation from the ends of the 0.5 mm² wire using suitable pliers. The length of the bare ends of the wire should be 6-7 mm.

7. Remove the insulation from a 0.35 mm² wire on a section of 12-14 mm. Bend the exposed ends of the wires approximately in half.

8. Place the connecting sleeve on the ends of the wires and press it in using crimping pliers.

Attention! Do not damage the insulation of the wires being connected. Remember that for a wire with a cross-section of 0.5 mm², a hole of the appropriate diameter should be selected for pressing the sleeve onto the pliers.

9. Solder the insulation of the connecting sleeve using a hair dryer and the appropriate hair dryer attachment. The connecting sleeve should be heated from the middle to the ends until it is completely sealed and adhesive mass appears on the ends.

Caution! Do not damage the insulation of nearby wires, plastic parts or noise-suppressing pads with a burning hair dryer.

10. Wrap the connected repair wire section with yellow electrical tape.

11. Connect the negative (-) terminal of the battery cable to the negative terminal.

12. Activate the automatic window lifts, set the clock and enter the security code into the radio.

Disconnecting plug connections

Most vehicle electrical system plugs are secured with a bracket to the body or nearby components.

To remove the plug from the holder, you need to move the latch tongue on the body in the direction of the arrow.

To disconnect the plug, you need to press the leash of the locking latch. On some plugs, the leash of this latch must be lifted.
