The anti-theft device consists of:
- anti-theft control device (built into the instrument panel);
- signal light of the anti-theft device;
- the control device is coordinated with the electronic engine control unit;
- reading coil on the ignition lock;
- ignition key with built-in pulse transceiver. This transceiver works without batteries. Each key has its own code.
The anti-theft device is activated when the key is removed from the ignition switch.
When the ignition is switched on by means of the induction phenomenon, a signal with the key code is received through the reading coil to the pulse transceiver built into the ignition key.
The key code is read and transmitted to the control device of the anti-theft device. There the code is compared with the written value. Then the engine control unit code is checked.
If the received codes match those specified on the instrument panel, the anti-theft warning lamp lights up, which goes out after about three seconds.
If the codes do not match, then the warning light will flash if the ignition is on but the engine does not start. This may be due to the following reasons:
- A) the reading process is interfered with by other keys on the bundle;
- b) key code is corrupted.
Checking the anti-theft device is carried out using an AUDI diagnostic tool connected to the diagnostic socket to read the codes of the registered faults.
Secret number
The secret number is printed on the key fob of the keychain given when purchasing a new car. This number is required to encode a new ignition key, made in connection with the loss of the old one.
An identification number
The identification number is needed so that if the secret number is lost, it can be requested from the factory where the car was produced. The identification number is also printed on the key ring. If the identification number is lost, it can be read as the help of a diagnostic tool.
