Those who are able to recognize their car's faults in a timely manner and contact a repair shop or fix the faults themselves can save large sums. Before getting seriously "ill", cars, like people, also "cough". If unusual sounds are heard during the operation of the car: grinding, knocking, etc., their cause should be established. In case of damage, an audible or visual alarm is often triggered. If you take these warnings seriously, then fixing the fault will cost you several times less than expensive repairs of more serious damage that may occur as a result of carelessness.
Observe, listen, feel your car - this will allow you to recognize its faults in a timely manner and thus avoid unnecessary expenses. For example, if the engine makes unusual sounds: knocks, rings or squeals even at idle, then the diagnosis made on the basis of the analysis of these sounds can be very different. As varied as the noises are, their causes can be just as varied: too much clearance in the valves, slipping V-belts, a faulty coolant pump bearing, the wrong octane number, misadjusted ignition. Some of these faults can be dealt with independently. If you do nothing, then everything will come to its end. At some point, the engine power will drop, and this can cost you a pretty penny. If ignition adjustment in a workshop costs a little more than 30 euros, then for an engine from the exchange fund you will have to pay at least ten times more.
Help and advice can be obtained from workshops that rent out workspaces. The corresponding addresses can be found in the phone book or from car enthusiasts. Of course, you will be responsible for the repair yourself. The workshop will not bear any responsibility for independent repairs, even if the specialists helped you with advice.
The collection of tips you will see on the next two pages is intended to encourage you to do your own repairs.
