Lock Defroster — Removing and Installing Components (Audi A4 B5)

1. Some models are equipped with an automatic lock defrosting system. The electronic control unit controls the power supply to the switch in the driver's door handle. When the handle is lifted, power is supplied to the heating element in the lock cylinder.

2. The only component that needs to be replaced is the electronic control unit. The heating element is built into the lock cylinder, the switch is built into the door handle.

3. To remove the control unit, remove the door trim panel as described in chapter 11.

4. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the control unit, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the door unit (Fig. 12.4).
