Removal
1. The switch is mounted on the pedal bracket under the dashboard. On models with cruise control systems, two sensors are mounted on the pedal; the brake light sensor is the upper one. Two vacuum hoses lead to the lower sensor.
2. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the lower panel/storage box under the front panel on the driver's side.
3. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery and disconnect the wiring connector from the sensor (Fig. 17.3).

4. Press the brake pedal, unscrew the lock nut at the front of the sensor.
5. Remove the sensor from the bracket. If the sensor retainer and washer are loose, remove them and store them with the sensor to avoid loss.
Installation and adjustment
6. Install the retainer into the pedal bracket.
7. On some models where the sensor has not been pre-adjusted, the upper lock nut may not be installed. To perform the adjustment, screw the M12X1.5 nut onto the bracket before installing the sensor.
8. Install the spring washer on the sensor. Press the pedal and secure the sensor with the clamp, pressing it all the way in
9. Install the lower lock nut on the sensor and smoothly release the pedal until it stops against the sensor plunger.
10. Adjust the position of the sensor by rotating the upper and lower nuts so that the plunger protrudes from the sensor by 0.1...0.5 mm. In this position, tighten the lower nut.
11. Connect the wiring connector and check that the brake lights turn on. If the sensor does not work, replace it.
12. Install the bottom panel/small storage box under the front panel. Connect the battery.
