When the handbrake is applied, a kind of rocker arm is pulled out behind the lever - a balancer. The brake cables are also suspended here, which go back to the brake calipers. The purpose of the leveling rocker is to distribute force as evenly as possible to both rear wheels when the handbrake is applied. At the same time, slight differences in the coefficient of friction of the two brake rods are equalized by the rocker arm.
The rear disc brakes are operated by the handbrake cables through the control lever, push rod and adjuster as described in section Rear disc brakes.
