Table of contents: Removal ↓ Air Filter Housing - Removal ↓
The air sucked in by the engine contains dust and other solid impurities, which, when entering the cylinder, lead to rapid wear of the pistons and their guides, acting as abrasive paper. To protect the engine, an air filter is used, which simultaneously acts as a noise absorber, reducing the noise level in the intake manifold.

Removal

Four-cylinder engines with Mopo-Motronic fuel injection system

1. Remove the two Phillips head screws on the top of the air cleaner cover (see illustration).

1. Remove the two Phillips head screws on the top of the air cleaner cover (see illustration).

2. Release the latches on the air filter housing. The arrows indicate the recess on the edge of the cover and the protrusion on the filter housing

3. Remove the cover and take out the replaceable filter element.

When installing, remember that the notch on the edge of the cover must fit onto the protrusion on the filter body.

4. Loosen the air intake hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the air filter.

5. Release the latches on the air filter housing.

6. Remove the cover and take out the replaceable filter element. The low pressure air supply hoses do not need to be disconnected (see illustration). The same procedure applies when removing the air filter on vehicles with diesel engines (see illustration 5.6a)

Air Filter Housing - Removal

Engines with Mono-Jetronic fuel injection system

18. Remove the replacement air filter element (see above).

19. Unscrew the three nuts in the middle of the housing and, if present, remove the retaining ring.

20. Remove all hoses and remove the air filter housing (see illustration).

20. Remove all hoses and remove the air filter housing (see illustration).

Attention! The low-pressure supply hose to the warm air flap on the air filter inlet pipe is attached to a brass connecting pipe or a pipe with a notch. The hose to the throttle valve is attached to a plastic pipe without a notch.
