In vehicles with a 5-cylinder engine and a regulated catalytic converter, leaks in the exhaust system before the exhaust gas sensor can lead to the following malfunctions:

Difficulty starting the engine, engine stalling, uneven idling, jerking during acceleration.

Test conditions: The engine must be cold and compressed air must be available.

Lower the engine and try to locate the leaks by ear.

Stop the engine.

Insert a compressed air hose into the end of the muffler and seal it with a rag.

Adjust the air pressure to 6 bar. Turn on the compressed air.

The connection points of the system, namely the cylinder head/exhaust pipe, pipe/intake pipe and intake pipe/catalytic converter, should be sprayed with a standard product "Leck-Sucher" and check for bubbles.

Eliminate leaks.
