Removal

Place the car on jack stands.

Remove the sump cover.

Lubricate all threaded connections of the exhaust system with a corrosion dissolving agent.

Vehicles with catalytic converter: Disconnect the plug connection for the lambda probe in the engine compartment. Remove the lambda probe.

Unscrew the muffler inlet pipe from the exhaust manifold from below.

Support the muffler with wooden blocks.

Loosen the muffler mounting bolts at the gearbox.

Loosen the clamp of the connecting pipe between the middle and rear mufflers or saw it off at the point of separation.

Remove the muffler from the hinges.

The exhaust system components can be removed separately. If the bolts do not come off during disassembly, heat the system at the joints with a gas burner. Place asbestos underneath!

Warning: Fire hazard!

Installation

Attention: Always install new rubber rings, nuts and bolts. To facilitate subsequent disassembly of the connections, it is recommended to lubricate the threaded connections with a high-temperature paste, for example: Liqui Moly LM-508-ASC.

Screw in the exhaust gas sensors, if any.

Connect the inlet pipe and the catalytic converter and secure them lightly with clamps. If necessary, sand off any remaining rust from the conical connecting elements between the inlet pipe and the catalytic converter. Check that the sealing elements are positioned correctly.

Screw on the gearbox holder.

Connect the middle and rear mufflers and hang them on rubber rings. Do not tighten the bolts, just bait them.

Before tightening the bolts, align the system. Ensure that there is a distance of at least 25 mm between the system elements and the body. If necessary, align the position of the system elements. The fastening elements must be uniformly loaded.

Tighten the bolts and nuts.

Install the lower engine compartment trim.

Lower the car.

If available, connect the lambda probe cable.
