Clean the running surfaces of the guides.
Install a new valve. The end of the valve stem must end with a guide sleeve.
Attention: Inlet valves should be installed in their guides, exhaust valves in their guides, since inlet and outlet valves have different stem diameters.
Determine the valve stem skew clearance. The gap is determined by the indicator. The VW 689/1 tool is used to fasten the indicator. The wear limit is 1.0 mm for the intake valve and 1.3 mm for the exhaust valve.
If the skew gap is too large, the guides are replaced.
