The cylinder block is made of gray cast iron. At the bottom of the cylinder block is the crankshaft, which lies in the main bearings. Connecting rods are connected to the crankshaft by means of plain bearings. linked in turn to the pistons. From below, the engine is closed with an oil sump, into which the oil used for engine lubrication and cooling is drained. On top of the cylinder block is the head. bolted to the block. The cylinder head is cast from aluminum, which provides better thermal conductivity and is lighter than cast iron.
The intake and exhaust manifolds are attached to the same side of the cylinder head. The camshaft is located on top of the cylinder head. It is driven through a belt. The camshaft actuates the intake and exhaust valves using hydraulic tappets. Hydraulic tappets automatically set the valve clearances so that no further adjustment is required as part of maintenance.
