- Severe overheating can damage the catalytic converter, so:
- When the catalytic converter is hot, do not tow the vehicle for a long time in order to start the engine.
- Do not turn off the ignition until the vehicle is moving in any gear.
- If a malfunction is detected in the ignition system while driving (noticeable by the engine operation) - Reduce speed immediately and seek assistance at the nearest service station.
In all of the above-mentioned vehicle operation options, unburned fuel can get into the catalytic converter, ignite there, and thus disable the catalytic converter.
