Drain
Remove the hood.

Open the expansion tank cap "arrow". Remove the sound insulation. Place the tray for the service cranes "VAS 6208" under the engine. Remove the lower coolant supply hose "arrow" from the radiator and drain the coolant. Ignore pos. "1".

Remove the coolant supply hose "arrow" from the oil radiator, lower it down and drain the remaining coolant.

Instructions. A solution of water and anti-corrosion non-freezing concentrate, designed for use at any time of year, is poured into the cooling system. Only the Plus -6 012 A8F A1 additive is allowed to be used. (short designation: "G12+"). Other concentrates can worsen the properties of the coolant, especially the anti-corrosion properties. The resulting damage can cause leaks in the cooling system and lead to serious engine malfunctions. Concentrate "G12+" can be mixed with concentrates "G11" and "G12". "G12+" and concentrates marked "in accordance with TL W 774 F" prevent freezing, corrosion and scale formation. In addition, they increase the boiling point. Therefore, a concentrate preventing freezing and corrosion must be used in the cooling system all year round. Coolant with a higher boiling point reliably protects the engine when operating under high loads, especially in countries with a tropical climate. The freezing point of the coolant must be at least -25°C (in countries with an arctic climate, at least -35°C). It is also prohibited to reduce the proportion of concentrate in the coolant in the warm season or when operating in countries with a warm climate by adding water to the cooling system. The proportion of concentrate must be at least 40%. If the freezing point must be lowered due to climatic conditions, the proportion of "G12+" concentrate can be increased, but not more than to 60% (the freezing point in this case will be around -40°C). If this limit is exceeded, the freezing temperature will increase again and, in addition, the heat capacity of the coolant will decrease. Only clean drinking water should be used to mix the coolant. When replacing the radiator, heater heat exchanger, cylinder head, cylinder head gasket or cylinder block, reusing the drained coolant is prohibited. Contaminated coolant must not be used further. Use clamps of the appropriate series to secure all hose connections. To check the freezing temperature in the cooling system for concentrate "G12+" it is necessary to use a refractometer "T10007".
Connect the lower coolant supply hose to the radiator "arrow". Ignore pos. "1". Fill the coolant reservoir of the cooling system filling device "VAS 6096" with at least 6 liters of coolant pre-mixed in the appropriate proportion:
- G12+ (40%) and water (60%) for freezing temperatures down to -25°C.
- G12+ (50%) and water (50%) for freezing temperatures down to -35°C.
- G12+ (60%) and water (40%) for freezing temperatures down to -40°C.

Screw the adapter "V.A.G 1274/8" to the expansion tank. Install the cooling system filling device "VAS 6096" on the adapter "V.A.G 1274/8". Insert the outlet hose "1" into the small tank "2". A small amount of coolant is ejected with the outgoing air, which must be collected. Close both valves "A" and "B", to do this, turn the lever perpendicular to the flow direction.
Connect "3" to compressed air. Pressure: 6...10 bar excess pressure.

Open valve "B" by turning the lever parallel to the flow direction. A reduced pressure is created in the cooling system by means of the pump. The indicator arrow should move into the green field. Briefly open valve "A" of the ejector; to do this, turn the lever in the flow direction to fill the coolant hose from the coolant reservoir of the device for filling the cooling system "VAS 6096". Close valve "A" again. Leave valve "B" open for 2 minutes. The vacuum in the cooling system continues to be created by the ejector pump. The indicator arrow should remain in the green field. Close valve "B". The indicator arrow should remain in the green field; in this case, the reduced pressure in the cooling system is sufficient for its subsequent filling. If the arrow is below the green field, repeat the previous operations. If the pressure increases, the cooling system is leaky. Remove the pressure hose. Open valve "A". The vacuum in the cooling system ensures the intake of coolant from the coolant tank "VAS 6096"; the cooling system is being filled. Remove the cooling system filling device "VAS 6096" from the adapter "V.A.G 1274/8" expansion tank. Unscrew the threaded plug of the ventilation hole "arrow" of the left upper hose for supplying coolant to the radiator. Fill with coolant until it appears in the ventilation hole. Tighten the threaded plugs.

If present, unscrew the threaded plug of the ventilation hole "arrow" of the coolant supply hose to the heater heat exchanger. Fill with coolant until it appears in the ventilation hole. Tighten the threaded plugs.

Check the oil level and add coolant to the maximum mark. On a car with an independent heater, turn on the heater for about 30 seconds. Run the engine for a maximum of 2 minutes at 2000 rpm and add coolant to the maximum mark of the expansion tank. Tighten the threaded plug of the cooling system tank. Start the engine and leave it running until the coolant fan starts working.

Check the coolant level and top up if necessary. When the engine is warm, the coolant level should be at the maximum mark; when the engine is cold, between the minimum and maximum marks. Turn off the engine.
