If you detect a malfunction of the AT, first of all, check the ATF level (see Chapter 1). If the level is insufficient, check the condition of the corresponding seals. Carefully inspect the oil cooler and all ATF hoses to ensure there are no signs of leaks. The vehicle owner can check/replace the information sensors of the automatic transmission control system, as well as replace the components of the automatic transmission mode selection drive.

Before replacing a suspected sensor, perform a memory scan of the control unit. All significant failures are recorded in the TCM memory as DTC codes, and in particularly serious cases, the AT automatically switches to emergency operating mode. Reading DTC codes is performed using special diagnostic equipment connected to the on-board diagnostic connector (DLC) (see Chapter 5). If there is no access to the necessary equipment, it will be enough to try to at least qualitatively determine the nature of the failure (electrical/mechanical) in order to facilitate communication with auto service specialists. It is not advisable to start removing the AT prematurely, since its diagnosis is only possible in the installed position.
