Removal
Remove the engine cover. Remove the upper part of the intake manifold. Turn the toothed belt guard forward of the "arrow" and hang the bracket on the lower side of the toothed belt guard. For clarity, the toothed belt guard is shown with the upper part of the intake manifold removed.

Risk of damage to a previously used toothed belt when changing its running direction. For reinstallation, mark the direction of the toothed belt running with chalk or a felt-tip pen before removing it. Loosen the bolt "arrow" of the toothed belt tension roller by about 1 turn.

Unscrew bolt "1" of the drive pulley of the toothed belt by approximately 2 turns, for this use support "3036".

Remove the leading pulley of the toothed belt with the puller "T10320". The leading pulley of the toothed belt remains on the camshaft. Remove the toothed belt first from the high-pressure pump toothed belt pulley, and then from the leading pulley of the toothed belt.

Installation
Installation in reverse order. Remove the noise insulation screens by loosening the fastening elements "1...4".

Place a rag under the top of the oil pan to catch the oil. Unscrew the threaded plug "arrow" on the top of the oil pan.

Risk of injury when probing the "TDC" hole with your finger. Do not turn the crankshaft "1". Screw the locking bolt "3242" with a torque of 20 Nm into the hole, if necessary, turn the crankshaft slightly in both directions to completely center the bolt. Before installing the toothed belt, it is necessary to firmly secure the high-pressure pump and the toothed belt pulley.

Check the installation position of the timing belt tension roller: the locking tab "arrow" must enter the groove of the high-pressure pump bracket.

Put on the toothed belt. Tighten bolt "1" of the toothed belt tension roller without applying force so that the eccentric of the toothed belt tension roller can still be turned without tipping over. Tighten bolt "2" of the toothed belt drive pulley so that the toothed belt drive pulley can still be turned without tipping over. Secure the high-pressure pump toothed belt pulley with locking pin "T40135".

Pre-tension the timing belt tension roller in the "direction of the arrow" with an Allen key so that the protrusion is below the notch by the value of dimension "a". Dimension "a" = approximately 5 mm.

Then unload the toothed belt tension roller "arrow" so that the protrusion "1" is exactly opposite the notch "2".

While holding the timing belt tension roller in this position, tighten the bolt "arrow".

Tighten the bolt "1" of the leading pulley of the toothed belt, for this use the counter support "3036". Unscrew the locking bolt "3242". Screw the threaded plug "arrow" for the "TDC" mark into the upper part of the oil pan. Insert the guide pins of the adapter "T40058" as shown below: the large diameter "arrow 1" faces the engine, the small diameter "arrow 2" faces the adapter.

Risk of damage due to camshaft drive chain jumping. Turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation "arrow". Turn the crankshaft with adapter "T40058" by 1 revolution.

Check the toothed belt tension: protrusion "1" should be opposite recess "2". If the specified value is not reached, readjust the toothed belt tension.

Installation is in reverse order. Install the upper part of the intake manifold.
