Running in
New engine
The first 1500 kilometers are the engine break-in period.
For the period of the first 1000 km run
- Speed no more than 3/4 of the maximum.
- Do not depress the accelerator pedal all the way.
- Avoid high engine speeds.
- Do not tow a trailer.
In the period from 1000 to 1500 km
- A gradual transition to speeds up to the maximum and to the maximum engine speed is possible.
In the first hours of operation, the engine is characterized by increased internal friction, when compared with the subsequent period, when the rubbing parts run in to each other. The efficiency of the running-in process largely depends on the driving mode for the first 1500 km of run.
Also, during the post-break-in period, engine operation at increased speeds is not allowed. The maximum allowable engine speed is the beginning of the red field on the tachometer scale. Upshift at the latest after the tachometer needle reaches the red warning field (car with manual transmission). Extremely high engine speeds are blocked automatically.
On vehicles with a manual transmission, do not allow a drop in engine speed with the transition of the engine to an unstable mode of operation. In time, until the uniformity of rotation of the crankshaft is disturbed, switch to a lower gear.
New tires
Take special care with new tires for the first 500 km.
New tires do not initially provide optimal traction and must therefore be run in.
New brake pads
New brake linings must first run in and therefore do not yet provide optimal friction force for the first 400 km. The resulting slight decrease in braking efficiency is compensated by a corresponding increase in the effort on the brake pedal.
During the break-in period, avoid heavy braking, especially at very high speeds, as well as braking on steep inclines and descents (for example, passes).
Gasoline car catalyst
Trouble-free operation of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device (catalyst) is of decisive importance for the environmentally friendly operation of the vehicle.
- Fill the vehicle with unleaded fuel only.
- Never run out of fuel until the tank is dry.
- Do not exceed the maximum engine oil level.
- The maximum towing distance for starting the engine is 50 m.
Never run out of fuel until the tank is empty. Fuel failure can lead to misfiring. Because of this, the variegated fuel enters the exhaust system. This can lead to overheating and damage to the catalyst.
If the vehicle has been operated in a country where unleaded fuel is not available, then when it is imported into a country with a mandatory presence of a catalyst, it is imperative to replace the catalyst.
Attention
- Due to the possibility of high-temperature heating of the catalyst under particularly unfavorable operating conditions, park the car so that the catalyst does not touch flammable materials.
- In the area of exhaust pipes, catalytic converters or heat shields, under no circumstances should additional materials be used to protect the underbody or against corrosion. These substances may ignite while driving - fire hazard!
Carefully
- Even a one-time refueling with leaded gasoline leads to a deterioration in the effect of the catalyst.
- If during the movement of the car there are interruptions in the ignition, a drop in power and deterioration in the uniformity of rotation of the engine, then a malfunction in the ignition system may be the cause. In this case, unburned fuel may enter the exhaust system; and from there into the atmosphere. In addition, the catalyst can fail from overheating. Slow down immediately and have the vehicle checked by the nearest authorized dealer.
