Terminal designation
The motor has the following terminals:
- Terminal 31 is mass addition (common to all vehicle electrical equipment).
- Terminal 53 receives the voltage for the first wiper speed.
- Terminal 53a supplies current (+) wiper end position. The electric motor receives voltage through the brush until the wiper returns to its original position when the driver turns off the wiper.
- Terminal 53b supplies voltage to the second windshield wiper speed (auxiliary winding).
- Through terminal 53e the motor is braked on return after shutdown to prevent the wiper from overshooting its park position.
- Not always available: terminal 53 c supplies power to the washer pump.
Examination
First you need to find out what has a defect, the electric motor or there is no power. In this case, you must act as follows:
1. Disconnect the multi-pin connector at the electric motor.
2. Connect 2 auxiliary cables (+) And (-) from the car battery to the windshield wiper motor.
3. Run one cable from the positive battery terminal to terminal 53 or 53b.
4. Connect the second cable from the negative terminal of the battery to terminal 31 of the electric motor.
5. The motor should now switch to stage I or II, depending on the terminal used. If this does not happen, the electric motor or the corresponding stage is defective. Remove the electric motor.
