The Audi A4 comes standard with two full-size airbags. The driver's airbag has a capacity of about 70 liters, while the passenger airbag next to the driver has a capacity of about 150 liters.
Pyrotechnic mechanisms for tensioning the seat belts in the event of a collision instantly tighten the belts of those sitting in front. The energy-absorbing deformation zone of the body and the octagonal cross-section of the side members, also with a high energy-absorbing capacity in a frontal collision, ensure deceleration that is largely borne by the occupants.
The structure of the side members extending to the front seat cross supports, combined with the rigid interior, provides a stable survival space.
