Exposed right roof pillar
- 1 - antenna connection;
- 2 - connection of rear heated glass;
- 3 - antenna wire to the radio receiver;
- 4 - control line from the radio;
- 5 - antenna amplifier;
- 6 - wire from the heated glass switch.
Mass point (arrow) heated rear window and antenna in the rear window is located on the right C-pillar. It is accessible after the roof pillar trim has been removed.
The heated rear window is switched on and off directly via a switch on the dashboard. Ignition-on current flows to the switch from the X-contact unload relay through a fuse in the white/yellow wire. An electronic switching circuit with a timer, which is integrated in the heated rear window switch, cuts off the power supply to the glass after about 10 minutes.
Troubleshooting
If the heated rear window remains cold, the following possibilities are considered:
1. Defective fuse.
2. Defective switch. Dismantle (as described in this chapter) and check with an electric test lamp if there is voltage in the white wire with the ignition on and the switch pressed.
3. Remove both roof pillar covers next to the rear window. It is easier to do this after removing the receiving pocket at the rear of the machine and the seat side trim.
4. Check the supply wire to the rear window: use a test lamp to determine if there is voltage at the back of the white supply wire on the left side of the glass. (This also applies to vehicles with an aerial in the rear window.)
5. On the right pillar of the roof, check whether the contact of the glass with the mass is in order.
6. Damaged heating filaments can be repaired with conductive silver lacquer available from hardware stores.
Tip: The three conductive tracks on the top of the heated rear window are for the antenna and therefore do not get hot.
