To improve the car's responsiveness, for example when overtaking, the automatic transmission has a so-called "Kickdown" switch, which is activated when the gas pedal is fully depressed. The kickdown switch provides either a delay in upshifting or even a downshift.
To assess the performance of an automatic transmission and correctly identify faults, certain experience in handling it and special knowledge are required. Since this is acquired only through constant maintenance, this manual only covers the simplest cases of faults and methods for eliminating them.
Note: On vehicles with a diesel engine and automatic transmission, there is a mechanical fuel supply regulator on the fuel pump.
As soon as the ignition is switched off, the electromagnetic valve stops the fuel supply automatically. If the valve is faulty, the engine continues to run. In this case, moving the mechanical regulator in the direction of the arrow can stop the engine.
