When the fuel level drops, the float also drops. A potentiometer connected to the float increases the electrical resistance of the sensor. Because of this, the voltage on the indicator of the device drops and the arrow of the fuel gauge goes down.
Withdrawal
Caution: Do not work near open flames.
Disconnect the cable from the battery.
Disconnect the connector from the fuel gauge sensor.
Open the lock of the sensor by turning it to the left using the VAG 2012A tool, and if it is not available, with a suitable pipe wrench or a wooden plank with light hammer blows. No sparks should occur.
Remove the sensor, while placing a rag to collect flowing gasoline
Installation
Insert the fuel gauge sensor with gasket so that the arrow on the tightened sensor points in the direction of travel. Lubricate the gasket with engine oil first.
Turn the sensor to the right and snap it into place.
Put on the fuel hoses and secure with new clamps.
Connect electrical plug.
Connect the ground cable from the battery.
Check the operation of the fuel gauge on the dashboard.
