Removal the camshaft drive chains (Audi Q5-8R)

Gearbox removed. Remove lower cover of timing chains. Remove chains from camshafts. Risk of failure due to reverse running of already used timing chain. For reassembly, mark direction of running of left and right timing chains with arrow, use paint for this. Do not make notches on timing chain with center punch or similar tools. Remove locking pin "T40071" and remove left timing chain.

Gearbox removed. Remove lower cover of timing chains. Remove chains from camshafts. Risk of failure…


Unscrew bolts "1" and "2" and remove the right chain tensioner.

Unscrew bolts «1» and «2» and remove the right chain tensioner.


Press the drive chain tensioner slider in the "direction of the arrow" and secure the tensioner with the locking pin "T40071". Loosen the bolt "1" of the drive chain sprocket by approx. 1 turn.

Tilt the drive sprocket with the bearing housing slightly to the side and remove the right drive chain in an upward direction.



Installation



If the tensioner has been removed from the chain tensioner, observe the installation position: the hole in the bottom of the housing faces the chain tensioner, the piston faces the tension bar. Replace the bolts that were tightened by turning further. Risk of damage to the valves and the bottom of the pistons. When turning the camshaft, neither piston of the crankshaft must be at "TDC". Install the camshaft drive chain on the left according to the marking made during removal, as shown in the figure. Press the slider of the drive chain tensioner on the left downwards and secure the tensioner with the locking pin "T40071". Guide the right drive chain past the bearing housing of the drive chain sprocket, paying attention to the marking made during removal. Tighten bolt "1" of the bearing housing. Remove the locking pin "T40071". Insert the chain tensioner into the cylinder head on the right and install the camshaft drive chain. Tighten bolts "1" and "2". Installation in reverse order: install the drive chains on the camshafts. Install the lower cover of the drive chains.
