If there is no stand, then you can disassemble the engine by securing it on a strong workbench or on the floor. When disassembling without a stand, be very careful when manipulating the engine.
If the engine is to be repaired, all units must first be removed in order to install them later in exactly the same order as during independent major repairs. Such units include:
- generator and brackets;
- emission control systems;
- distributor, spark plugs and high-voltage wires;
- thermostat with housing;
- water pump;
- carburetor;
- intake and exhaust manifolds;
- oil filter;
- fuel pump;
- engine mount parts;
- flywheel with clutch mechanism.
Warning: When removing engine attachments, pay special attention to parts that may be needed for engine installation or for auxiliary installation. Mark gaskets, seals, spacers, shafts, washers, nuts, etc. to reinstall them in their original positions.
If an incomplete cylinder block is to be installed, i.e. a cylinder block with the crank mechanism and piston group installed, the cylinder head, oil pan and oil pump should also be removed. The list of parts to be removed is determined by the accepted repair option.
If a complete overhaul is planned, the engine must be completely disassembled and the engine parts removed in the following order:
- camshaft timing belt covers;
- toothed belt;
- cylinder head cover;
- front and back covers;
- cylinder head and camshaft;
- oil pan;
- oil pump;
- connecting rod and piston group;
- crankshaft.
Before disassembling and performing major repair procedures, you will need the following tools and equipment:
- standard tool kit;
- small cash boxes or plastic bags for storing parts;
- staple for removing gasket residues;
- countersink reamer;
- impact puller;
- micrometers;
- pointer indicator with mounting system;
- spring compressor;
- cylinder honing device;
- piston ring groove cleaning tool;
- electric drill;
- set of taps and dies;
- wire brushes;
- solvent.
