The service life of the axle shafts also depends on the driving style. Avoid full throttle when turning the front wheels, and also avoid starting with the drive wheels spinning. Noises that indicate a malfunction sometimes appear unexpectedly and then disappear for several days.
Rhythmic noises (knock-knock-knock) when pressing the accelerator pedal, as well as when coasting (noises may change when turning the steering wheels) indicate a fault in the joint on the wheel side.
If the steering wheel vibrates and shakes when turning the wheels, the outer joint is also obviously damaged.
A knock when starting off with the wheels turned may indicate a defective axle shaft. The same symptoms accompany a faulty wheel bearing.
