Raise the vehicle and place it on safety stands (see Jacking up a car and installing safety supports). Using a portable lamp, inspect the underbody, paying special attention to the wheel arches. The elastic coating cracks with age. Check the reliability of the wheel arch liner fastenings. If the fastenings are lost, dirt can get in through the holes, reducing the effectiveness of the protection. The sooner the damaged coating is restored, the less serious the corrosion damage to the body will be.
