At the front of the gearbox, the exhaust system is suspended on a metal bracket. Above: the bracket is suspended on a rubber-metal support (1), below, the necessary elasticity is provided by a coil spring (2).
Workshops prefer to replace the entire exhaust system. We do not recommend doing this immediately and thoughtlessly, since all parts of the Audi exhaust system are sold separately, including the intermediate and final mufflers, which consist of one part in the original system. Dismantling a separate muffler can be done without much expense, first check and then replace:
Execution order
1. Thoroughly tap the still serviceable parts of the exhaust system with a hammer, including the end faces. Tap hard enough
2. If a ringing sound is heard with each blow, then the metal is still strong.
3. If the knocking sounds duller in some places, then the outer surface has already weakened and will soon break, especially in winter.
4. When purchasing spare parts, it is necessary to take into account the fact that gaskets and self-locking nuts must be replaced with new ones.
