Technical characteristics of the cylinder block (Audi 80 B2)

The cylinder block is sleeveless and cast iron. The lower part of the cylinder block has five supports for the crankshaft main bearing shells. The main bearing caps are finally machined together with the block and therefore are not interchangeable.

Clearance between piston and cylinder for new parts, mm: 0.03.

Maximum allowable gap (when worn out), mm: 0.08.

The cylinder diameter is measured with a bore gauge in three zones both in the longitudinal and transverse directions of the engine at a distance of 10 mm from the upper and lower edges and in the middle.
