Note. Valid for vehicles with Dynamic Steering: Before removing the steering wheel from the steering column, use the steering wheel calibration device -VAS 6458- to bring the steering wheel to be removed to a strictly horizontal position. Place the new steering wheel horizontally on the steering column using the steering wheel calibration device -VAS 6458-. After completing this work step, check the steering angle sender -G85- in relation to the steering wheel position. To do this, select the appropriate measured value block in the steering column electronics control unit -J527- in self-diagnosis mode. If the displayed value is 0.5°, the steering angle sender -G85- must be re-calibrated and the dynamic steering system must be re-adjusted. To do this, select the appropriate program in Guided Fault Finding.
Set the wheels to position "directly". Place the steering wheel as far back as possible. To do this, use the full range of adjustment of the steering column position. Remove the Airbag module. The steering wheel must be removed in the middle position (wheels in position "directly"). Unscrew bolt -2-. Mark the position of the steering wheel/steering column with a felt-tip pen. Remove the steering wheel -3- from the steering column.
Installation
Install in reverse order. In this case, tightening torques must be taken into account. Before installing the steering wheel, make sure that the wheels are in a straight position.
When installing a removed steering wheel: make sure that the marks on the steering column/steering wheel are opposite each other.
Installing a new steering wheel (no markings): The steering wheel should be in the middle position (The steering wheel spoke must be in a horizontal position and the wheels in the "directly").
Install the steering wheel. Install the Airbag module.
Take a test drive. If the steering wheel is not level, you need to remove it again and rearrange it on the splines of the steering column.
