Front wheel drive vehicles
Withdrawal
Attention. The description applies to front wheel drive vehicles. Due to the different design of the rear suspension, the parking brake cables are placed differently in all-wheel drive vehicles. However, in principle, removal and installation are carried out in the same way.
Paint mark the position of the wheel in relation to the hub. This is necessary to reinstall the wheel in its original position, as a result of which its balance is maintained.
With the vehicle on wheels, loosen the rear wheel bolts.
Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands, unscrew the bolts and remove the wheels.
Remove the front section of the heat shield.
Unscrew the nuts and move the main section of the heat shield forward (see fig. 11.24).
Loosen the parking brake cables as follows.
- Remove retainer D (pic. 11.25).
- Turn the adjusting sleeve C up to the stop A while holding the flange of the adjusting sleeve E with a 13 mm wrench.
- Slide the parking brake cable sheaths.
Remove the bracket that secures the parking brake cable sheath to the rear brake caliper (see fig. 11.26).
Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever on the caliper, being careful not to damage the parking brake boot.
Release the parking brake cable from the retainers on the rear suspension beam (see fig. 11.27).
Unscrew the nuts and remove the rear muffler heat shield (see fig. 11.28).
Use a screwdriver blade to open the latch and remove the parking brake cable (see fig. 11.29).
Using a screwdriver, remove the parking brake cable from the console (see fig. 11.30).
Remove the rear of the center console.
Using a screwdriver through the hole in the base of the parking brake lever, press the parking brake hummocks in the direction of the lever and squeeze the head out of the holder (see fig. 11.31).
Remove the parking brake cable.
Installation
If equipped, remove non-reusable plastic parts from the parking brake cable compensator.
Fix the compensator with a size 2 screwdriver (pic. 11.19), so it doesn't turn around.
Through the console, insert the spherical head into the parking brake cable compensator.
Attach the parking brake cable to the console.
Attach the parking brake cable to the calipers and secure with clips.
Attach the parking brake cable to the holders on the rear beam.
Install the rear of the center console.
Reinstall and screw on the heat shield near the rear muffler.
Screw on the heat shield.
Apply a thin layer of lubricant to the shoulder that centered the wheel disc. Install the wheel, aligning the previously applied marks, and secure it with bolts. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to 120 Nm.
4x4 vehicles
Loosen the parking brake cable adjusters. The fittings are located in front of the rear lower control arms.
Hang out the parking brake cable.
Unscrew the bolts and release the parking brake cable from the holders on the rear beam.
Squeeze the spring clip with pliers and remove the parking brake cable from the lever (see fig. 11.33).
Unscrew and remove the heat shield (see fig. 11.34).
Unscrew the nuts and release the parking brake cable from the holders on the bottom of the car (see fig. 11.35).
