Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the top engine cover. Raise and support the front of the vehicle.

3. Remove the auxiliary drive belt.

4. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold.

5. Remove the exhaust manifold.

6. Drain the coolant.

7. Disconnect the accelerator cable and cruise control mechanism.

8. Remove the intake manifold.

9. Remove the spark plugs.

10. Remove the ignition distributor.

11. Remove the timing belt.

12. Remove the camshaft sprocket and tensioner, disconnect the rear belt cover from the head.

13. Remove the camshaft cover. Remove the brake vacuum pump and the piston on the left side of the head.

14. Disconnect the necessary fuel hoses.

15. Disconnect all wires that interfere with removal of the cylinder head.

16. Remove the head bolts in the reverse order of tightening (see Fig. Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence).



17. Remove the head.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. The figure shows the guide pins required for correct installation of the head.
