Exhaust system check (12 months) (Audi A4 B5)

1. Allow the engine to cool for at least an hour after driving. Check the condition of the exhaust system from the engine to the tailpipe. The easiest way to check is on a lift.

2. Check for obvious burnouts in the exhaust system, serious corrosion, and damage. All exhaust system fasteners should be intact and secure. Burnt-out areas are usually detected by carbon deposits around the holes.

3. Try to move the pipes. If the exhaust system components rub or knock against the body and suspension elements, replace the worn system fasteners or, if possible, separate the system parts and turn them so as to eliminate the defects.
