The front passenger airbag is located in the instrument panel, above the glove compartment flap. Both airbags share a common control system.
In severe frontal collisions, the airbag system, working together with the seat belts, provides additional protection for the driver and front passenger in the head and chest area. The airbag system does not deploy in side collisions, rear-end collisions, rollovers, or low-severity frontal collisions.
The readiness of the airbag system for operation is monitored electronically and confirmed by a control lamp on the instrument panel
Attention! The steering wheel trim panel must not be pasted over, covered with fabric or treated in any other way. It can only be wiped with a dry or damp cloth. Similar rules apply to the instrument panel adjacent to the front passenger airbag.
Inflatable airbags
After approximately 10 years from the date of manufacture, the airbag system must be replaced with a new one. The replacement is carried out by a suitable workshop.
The period for replacing the pillow with a new one is indicated on the plate attached to the inside of the sun visor on the passenger side or on the inside of the glove compartment lid.
The replacement periods for airbags must be strictly observed.
Any work related to the airbag system, including the removal and installation of its components in connection with repairs, for example, the steering wheel, must only be carried out by specialists from the appropriate workshop.
When the airbag is deployed, smoke is released. It is important to know this so as not to mistake it for a fire in the cabin.
Once deployed, the airbag must be replaced.
