The four-stroke, four-cylinder, in-line, gasoline engine is installed along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The cooling system is liquid. The engine uses a valve timing mechanism with an overhead camshaft, the drive of which is carried out by a toothed belt from the toothed pulley of the crankshaft. The valves are actuated through levers.

Main technical characteristics of the FZ engine:

• Cylinder diameter, mm: 75.
• Piston stroke, mm: 72.
• Working volume, cm³: 1272.
• Compression ratio: 8.2.
• Compression, kg/cm²: nominal: 8-10; minimum: 6.
• Permissible difference in compression between cylinders, kg/cm²: 3.
• Nominal net power according to ISO (DIN), kW (hp) at crankshaft speed of 5800 rpm: 44 (60).
• Maximum torque according to ISO, Nm, at crankshaft speed of 3800 rpm: 95.
• Cylinder firing order: 1-3-4-2 (counting from the camshaft drive side).
