3.0L models
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (see Section 10).
2. Remove the generator (see Section 13).
3. On 1st generation engines, unscrew the bolt (1 in illustration 4.66 Chapter 2).
4. Unscrew the bolt (see illustration 4.67 Chapter 2), but do not disconnect the ATF line.
5. Disconnect the connector (2 in illustration 4.71 Chapter 2) and disconnect the B+ wire (1).
6. Unscrew the bolt (3 in illustration 4.72 Chapter 2) engine mounts, bolt (2) with a 16 mm head and bolt (1). Remove the starter.
7. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Before installing the starter, make sure that the locking part (1 in the illustration) correctly inserted into the mounting opening for the starter, i.e. aligned with the opening (2) in the places indicated by the arrows.

4.2L models
8. Disconnect the negative battery cable (see Section 10).
9. Remove the right engine mount (see Chapter 2).
10. Remove the bolts (see illustration 35.53 Chapter 2) and remove the right engine mount bracket.
11. Remove the protective covers, disconnect the starter wires (3 and 4 in illustration 35.54 Chapter 2) and the ground wire (1). Unscrew the bolts (2 and 5) and remove the starter.
