Vehicles with electronically controlled damping and/or gas discharge lamps are equipped with dynamic headlight range control as standard. The damping control system and dynamic headlight range control require information on the compression and rebound stroke of the springs of the front suspension and rear axle to operate. For this purpose, the position of the left/right control arm relative to the body is transmitted via a connecting rod to the front left ride height sensor "G78" and the front right ride height sensor "G289". They transmit electrical signals to the electronically controlled damping control unit "J250" and/or the left/right gas discharge lamp control unit "J343/344". At the rear axle, these signals are transmitted from the rear left ground clearance sensor "G76" and the rear right ground clearance sensor "G77" to the electronic damping control unit "J250" and/or to the left/right gas discharge lamp control units "J343/344". These signals are required to determine the vehicle level. The automatic headlight range control reacts automatically to changes in ground clearance. The vehicle level may change in the following situations: working with a trailer. Various vehicle load conditions; the car is unloaded, the car is partially or fully loaded.

Note. On vehicles with electronic damping control, it is necessary to adapt the adjustment position and check the main headlight adjustments in the following cases: the support arm was removed and installed, the subframe was replaced. Installation work was carried out on the vehicle level sensor, the vehicle level sensor was replaced, the bolted connection of the connecting rod from the ground clearance sensor on the support arm was loosened.

On vehicles with electronically controlled damping, the adjustment position has been re-adapted. After re-adapting the adjustment position on vehicles with lane assist, the lane assist control unit "J759" must be recalibrated.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Please note the following: Only install a sensor of the same design. The locking device on the sensor holder must be installed in the subframe. The sensor lever must point to the rear. After loosening, check the basic setting of the headlights. After removing and installing the vehicle level sensor or loosening the rods on vehicles with electronic damping control, the standard suspension position must be reset. After re-adapting the adjustment position on vehicles with lane assist, the lane assist control unit "J759" must be recalibrated.
