Constant control
1. The brake lights in the Audi A4 are powered directly from the battery positive (through the fuse and brake light switch). This means that they should also light up when the brake pedal is depressed without the ignition being turned on.
2. The wall behind the car on the right and left should be illuminated with red light when you press the brake pedal.
3. Or, when driving in a column, check in the rear-view mirror whether both brake lights of your car are reflected in the headlight reflectors or in the varnish of the car coming behind.
Stoplight switch
Stoplight switch (3) located in the bracket above the brake pedal. It should not be confused with ventilation valves (1 and 2) speed control systems. 4 - control unit for blocking the departure of the car.
The brake light switch is located above the brake pedal in the Audi and can only be accessed by removing the storage pocket on the left (chapter Salon).
If the brake pedal is depressed, the switch pin extends and makes contact with the brake lights.
Stoplight Switch Adjustment
1. Dismantle the receiving pocket on the left under the dashboard (chapter Salon).
2. Press the brake pedal by hand.
3. Forcefully press up the brake light switch in its guide.
4. Now release the brake pedal and pull back as far as it will go.
5. This will straighten the brake light switch on its own.
6. Such an adjustment is carried out only once during the installation of the circuit breaker, because after repeated adjustments, the switch will not be clamped securely enough in the guide.
Checking the brake light switch
If both brake lights fail, check if the switch is the source of the problem:
1. Disconnect the wire connector at the brake light switch.
2. Close the contacts in the connector with a paper clip or a piece of wire.
3. If the brake lights are now on (although it hasn't happened yet), then the switch is faulty.
Tip: Don't confuse the brake light switch with the cruise control brake pedal switch. The latter has an additional connection to a vacuum hose.
