To perform clutch removal and installation work, a rod for centering the clutch driven disk is required. This rod can replace the old primary shaft of the gearbox.

1. Remove the gearbox.

2. Remove the 8mm socket head cap screws on the pressure plate. To prevent the engine flywheel from turning, secure it with a suitable screwdriver by securing it to the flywheel ring gear.

3. Disconnect and remove the pressure and driven clutch discs.

4. Inspect the pressure plate to determine the degree of wear.

5. Check the condition of the diaphragm spring segments and ensure that the wear of the worn-in segments does not exceed 0.3 mm.

6. Make sure the diaphragm spring segments are not sagging and that the rivets are securely seated.

7. Check the bearing surface of the pressure plate for cracks, burrs and wear. Disks with an inward deflection of up to 0.3 mm can still be installed. Check with a metal ruler. If the above defects are present, the pressure plate must be replaced.

8. Check the condition of the driven disk. AUDI does not provide any reference indications regarding the wear of the driven disk. We recommend relying on your own assessment and replacing the disk at the slightest suspicion.

9. Check the damper springs on the disc. If at least one of them is broken, the disc must be replaced.

10. Check the small needle bearing at the end of the crankshaft to center the primary clutch, and also the clutch release bearing for ease of movement.

11. Lubricate the spline grooves of the driven clutch disc with molybdenum paste or VAG D 000 100 grease.

12. Lubricate the grooves of the gearbox primary shaft shank, as well as the needle bearing, with temperature-resistant grease.

13. Install the clutch slave disc. The rear plate of the damper should face the pressure plate.

14. Install the pressure plate and center the driven plate using the old transmission input shaft or a suitable rod or drift.

15. Screw in the pressure plate mounting bolts and tighten them in several passes in a crosswise order to a torque of 25 Nm.

Attention! When installing a new pressure plate, be sure to remove the anti-corrosion grease from its active surface. It can be washed off with a thinner. Otherwise, the service life of the pressure plate is reduced.

16. Install the gearbox in place.

To replace the release bearing, you also need to remove the gearbox. If you are going to install the old bearing, do not remove the grease from it. The release bearing sleeve is plastic, so you do not need to lubricate it. To install the release bearing in place, simply insert it into the sleeve.
