Raise the car.
Disc brakes
Make a visual assessment of the thickness of the brake pads. To do this, illuminate them with a lamp through the slots in the disc or use a mirror to inspect the inner pads.
If the appearance does not seem perfect remove the front wheels.
Check the thickness of all friction linings with a caliper (without base plate).
Estimate visually the thickness of the inner linings.
The wear limit of the front and rear disc brake pads has been reached if the pads (without foundation) are 2 mm thick. In this case, replace all four suspension pads.
Recommendation: Based on experience, a 1 mm front disc brake pad corresponds to a mileage of 1000 km. This rule is true under adverse driving conditions. Under normal conditions, the pads last longer. With a pad thickness of 5.0 mm (without main plate) its resource is another 3000 km.
If removed, install front wheels.
Drum brakes
Remove the cap from the hose hole on the brake shield.
Shine a flashlight through the hole to check the thickness of the pads
The wear limit is reached at a thickness of 2.5 mm. In this case, replace all four pads.
Check for grease or brake fluid on the pads.
Lower the car.
Tighten wheel bolts crosswise to 110 Nm.
