Removal

1. Remove the poly V-belt cover. To do this, unscrew 2 bolts SW 10 and detach the cover from the ignition coil screen.

2. 2.8L 30-valve engine (193 hp): Unscrew the viscous fan. To do this, insert a screwdriver into one of the four holes in the poly V-belt pulley as a stopper and rest it on the viscous fan bracket. Use a wrench to unscrew to the right (left hand thread). Remove the fan.

3. Mark the direction of movement of the V-belt with an arrow using a felt-tip pen or marker. The engine crankshaft rotates, when viewed from the front, to the right, that is, clockwise.

4. Loosen the V-belt. To do this, turn the tensioner as shown in the figure in the direction of the arrow with a SW 15 ring spanner and lock it with a suitable pin (∅ 6 mm), for example, AUDI-3204. First, remove the plastic cap from the tension roller with a screwdriver.

Warning: For 193hp engine, insert 17mm Allen key under the tensioner pulley, turn the tensioner pulley bracket to the right and lock it.

5. Remove the poly V-belt.

Installation

1. Place the poly V-belt first on the drive and guide rollers and only then on the tension roller.

Warning: If a used belt is reinstalled, pay attention to the direction of its rotation. Installing the belt in the opposite direction increases wear and may cause it to break. Therefore, the poly V-belt must always be installed so that the arrow on the belt points in the direction of rotation of the engine shaft (if you look from the front, then in a clockwise direction).

2. Install the poly V-belt on the belt pulleys. Lightly press the tensioner in the direction of the arrow. Pull out the insert pin. Then slowly turn the tensioner against the direction of the arrow, paying attention to the correct position of the poly V-belt on the belt pulleys.

3. Engine with a power of 193 hp: Tighten the fan with a viscous coupling to the left with a torque of 40 Nm.

4. Install the poly V-belt cover. Install the plastic cap on the tension roller.
