Table of contents: Liquid level control ↓ Replacing brake fluid ↓
The brake fluid filler tank is located on the left side of the engine compartment.
Warning: On right-hand drive vehicles, the brake fluid reservoir is located on the opposite side of the engine compartment.
Liquid level control
The fluid level should always be between the "max" and "min" marks. A slight decrease in the fluid level as the vehicle mileage increases is due to wear and tear and automatic adjustment of the brake pads. This is normal.
If the fluid level drops significantly over a short period of time or falls below the "min" mark, the brake system may be depressurized. The brake system warning light comes on to indicate that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is too low. It is imperative that you contact an Audi dealer immediately to have the system checked.
Replacing brake fluid
Brake fluid is hygroscopic. Therefore, over time, it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air and accumulates water. Increased water content significantly lowers the boiling point and, under certain conditions, can worsen the braking effect. Therefore, replace the brake fluid every two years!
