Audi put an end to this: almost all connectors are additionally secured mechanically with clamps. (To disconnect the connector, you need to overcome the lock.)
Here are the most common connector locks:
- The injection system connectors are secured with a wire clamp that needs to be pressed down.
- Most multi-pin connectors have locking tabs on the sides that need to be pressed in to remove the connector.
- For example, the combination instrument has multi-pin connectors that are secured with an inserted clamp.
Central switching node
The wires in the Audi A4 are connected in bundles. They all connect to the central switching unit, a black box on the left under the dashboard. It also houses six relays and screw connections for the main electrical cable of the car.
