Removal and installation of automatic transmission (Audi A6 C4)

Removal



1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle.

2. Remove the lower engine panels.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Gearbox 01N



1. Disconnect the wire from the oxygen sensor.

2. Secure the engine to the lift.

3. Remove the front wheels.

4. Remove the cross member from under the gearbox.

5. Remove the front section of the exhaust pipe.

6. Disconnect the wires at the rear of the transmission.

7. Disconnect the wire from the speedometer sensor.

8. Disconnect the shafts from the drive flanges.

9. Remove the starter.

10. Remove the nuts connecting the drive disk and the torque converter.

11. Place a jack under the gearbox.

12. Disconnect the gear shift cable from the bracket.

13. Disconnect the gear shift lever cable from the transmission shift lever.

14. Remove the right gearbox support together with the bracket.

15. Remove the left gearbox support.

16. Loosen the transmission fluid tube connections and drain the fluid.

16. Loosen the transmission fluid tube connections and drain the fluid.


17. On the gearbox itself, unscrew the bolt (2), remove the sealing rings (1) and disconnect the two transmission fluid pipes (A and B).



18. On 5-cylinder engines, remove the bolts securing the reaction rod.

19. Lower the gearbox slightly.

20. Remove the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

21. Disconnect the gearbox from the engine.

Gearbox 097



1. Disconnect the wire from the speedometer sensor.

2. Remove the bolt securing the filler pipe to the engine and disconnect the pipe.

3. Remove the upper bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

4. Secure the engine to the lift.

5. Remove the crossmember located under the catalytic converter and/or under the exhaust system.

6. Remove the front section of the exhaust pipe.

7. Disconnect the shafts from the drive flanges.

8. Remove the starter.

9. Remove the nuts connecting the drive disk and the torque converter.

10. Remove the heat shield from the multifunction switch.

11. Disconnect the wires at the rear of the transmission.

12. Disconnect the transmission fluid lines from the transmission and drain the fluid.

13. Place a jack under the gearbox.

14. Remove the gearbox mounting bolts and lower the gearbox slightly.

15. Disconnect the right transmission support and disconnect the gear shift lever cable from the support.

16. Remove the remaining bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

17. Disconnect the gearbox from the engine and lower it.

Installation



Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
