Carefully! Danger of contamination from leaking hydraulic oil. Since the hydraulic pump starts even when the ignition is off, the battery must be disconnected. Risk of damage to electronic components when disconnecting the battery. Carefully follow the process of removing the battery.
Disconnect ground cable from battery. Wash the outside of the hood and cover it with a protective cover. Unlock the service cover from the inside. Unlock the bonnet cover and pull it slightly forward. Pull on protective boot -VAS 6011- on bonnet. Remove bonnet and place on protective cover -VAS 6011-. Unscrew vacuum reservoir approx. 1/2 turn. The hydraulic oil level in the reservoir increases. Remove the hose clamp from the gear selector using a screwdriver.
Remove pipes and hoses -1- and -2- from gearbox. Pos. -3- ignore. Close open pipes and pipes with clean plugs from engine plug set -VA.S 6122-.
Unplug electrical connector -arrow A-. Unscrew coolant expansion tank -arrow B- and lay to one side with coolant hoses connected.
Unfasten hose clip -upper arrow- and detach coolant drain hose from cowling grille. Remove nut -lower arrow-. Remove coolant drain hose and set aside.
Remove bolt -arrow-. Pull complete pipe/hose lines -1...3- downwards out of hydraulic control unit.
Open lines and connections are closed with clean plugs from the engine plug set -VAS 6122-. Mark tubular-hose lines for correct re-installation. Remove tubing and hose lines -1- and -2- from mounting plate by moving sliding part -A- in -direction of arrow 1-.
Installation
Install the tubular-hose lines on the mounting plate according to the marks made during removal.
To block the tubing and hose lines, move the sliding part -A- to the central position -arrow 2-. The notch in the sliding piece and the hole in the mounting plate -arrow- must match. Install tubing/hose lines to hydraulic control unit and gear selector.
