Replacing the outer door seal
The outer door seal is glued and can only be replaced. The vehicle and the outer door seal must be at room temperature. The bonding surfaces must be cleaned of dust and grease using cleaning agent -D 009 401 04-. Apply clutch booster -D 355 205 A2- to the bonding surfaces on the body side using applicator -D 009 500- and allow to dry for 10 minutes. When installed correctly, the water drain holes should be located on the underside of the door.
- 1. External door seal. Before removing, mark the position of the seal on the door, for example, with electrical tape. Pull the seal off the top of the door a little and cut it with regular scissors. To ensure that glue residues do not remain on the door as much as possible, you should pull the seal only in the longitudinal direction and only then remove it from the door. Removal: Pull the seal longitudinally only, then gradually remove upwards. Installation: The bonding surfaces must be free of dust and grease, clean the bonding areas with cleaner -D 009 401 04-, and if necessary remove any remaining adhesive with the adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-. Apply adhesion enhancer -D 355 205 A2- with applicator -D 009 500 25- in the bonding area and allow to dry for 10 minutes. Disconnect the door opening limiter from the body. Remove the outer door seal behind the door stop. Re-attach the door latch. Align the outer seal mark behind the B-pillar in the upper corner. Secure the outer door seal to the window frame on the left and right outside with electrical tape. For the correct position of the drainage hole (Zx) should be located in the outer door seal at the bottom. Press in the outer door seal on both sides one by one, starting from the middle. Remove the protective film from the bottom of the door. Press the outer door seal in the lower center to the left and right. Next, gradually remove the protective film and press the outer door seal. Then press the door seal up along the A and B pillars. Then press the door seal up along the window frame. When installing, do not stretch or flatten the door seal. Any stretching or flattening of the seal on the underside or on the A and B pillars may cause it to peel off. The door seal can only be stretched or flattened at the top area of the window frame as this is where it provides a strong fit above the frame trim. Press the base of the door seal with the insulating film roller -3356-. To prevent the outer door seal from moving and falling out, do not close the door for 2 hours, while the vehicle must be at room temperature
