Brake hoses and lines connect the master brake cylinder to the wheel cylinders.
Warning: Rigid metal pipes must be installed in a workshop environment as this requires appropriate qualifications.
Warning: Hoses are used as flexible connections between rigid moving parts of the brake system, such as calipers, and the vehicle body. If there is visible damage, the hoses must be replaced.
Warning: If the brake fluid reservoir is completely empty of fluid (for example, due to a leak in the system or as a result of air being removed when you forgot to add liquid to an empty tank) air enters the ABS pump. In this case, for safety reasons, air should be removed from the system at a service station using a special device. If there is an EDS, it is additionally necessary to perform an adjustment using a tester. When installing a new brake hose, it is also necessary to remove air from the system using a special device.
Warning: Do not allow brake hoses to come into contact with oil or fuel, and do not coat brake hoses with paint or underbody protection.
Removal
Warning: Follow the rules for handling brake fluid as given in the subsection Brake fluid.
1. Raise and place the vehicle on stands.
2. Remove the caliper, referring to the subsection Removal and installation the brake disc/caliper.
3. Disconnect the brake hose at the guide and clutch holder.
4. Disconnect the brake hose from the pipeline and at the caliper. Do not twist the brake hose. If it is necessary to replace the brake hose at the caliper, you should first remove the caliper.
Warning: Wipe off any leaked brake fluid with a rag. Close the pipe connection towards the brake cylinder with a suitable plug.
Installation
1. Install only brake hoses approved by the manufacturer. Install the new hose so that it hangs without twisting and tighten it to a torque of 15 Nm to the brake pipe.
Warning: Secure the hose to the caliper with new O-rings, connecting bolt (hollow bolt) secure to the caliper with a torque of 35 Nm.
2. After installation, with the wheels unloaded, raise the vehicle, turn the steering wheel left and right and check that the hose follows all wheel movements without touching adjacent structures.
3. Install the caliper, referring to the subsection Removal and installation the brake disc/caliper.
4. Lower the car onto its wheels.
5. Check with the vehicle on the ground to ensure that the hose follows all wheel movements without touching adjacent structures.
Warning: Please perform a reliability check:
- Are the brake hose fasteners tightened securely?
- Is the brake hose secured in the holder?
- Are the air bleed nipples tightened?
- Is there enough brake fluid in the reservoir?
- With the engine running, check the tightness of the system. To do this, press the brake pedal with a force of 200-300 N (20-30 kg) for 10 s. The pedal should not move. Check all connections for tightness.
6. Remove air from the system at a service station.
7. Test the braking system on a lightly trafficked road.
