Removal

Connect the "VAS 5052" tester and select the engine electronics control unit using the "address" 01. The ignition must be on.
The display of the diagnostic tester "VAS 5052" shows the identification of the control unit and the coding "2". Wait for the complete display of the identification of the control unit and print it out. Switch off the ignition. Lift the floor mat in the footwell on the left. Unscrew the fastening bolts "arrow" of the cover. Remove the cover. Remove the fuse board "3".

Unscrew the "arrow" bolts and carefully remove the control unit bracket.
Carefully remove the engine control unit "1" and press the fasteners "4" in the direction of the arrow -see the following figure-.

Unlock the engine control unit connector and disconnect the connector.
Installation
Installation in reverse order. Adapt the immobilizer to the control unit of the direct injection system of diesel fuel "J248" (otherwise the car will not start). Carry out coding of the new engine control unit. Cruise control system (identified on the steering column switch) switches freely in the engine control unit. The diagnostic tester "VAS 5052" should be used.

In the "Guided Fault Finding" mode, select the "Go" button, "Select functions/components", "Drive", "Engine code", "01 Systems with self-diagnosis function", "Functions", "J248 23 SG for diesel direct injection system", "Replace control unit".
For vehicles with automatic transmission 085 DS: perform basic adjustment of the clutch travel sensor "G162" on the slave cylinder. Self-diagnosis of the 5-speed transmission 085 DS. Perform basic adjustment.
