Withdrawal
Connect tester -VAS 5052- and select using "addresses" 01 engine electronics control unit. In this case, the ignition must be turned on.
The display of the diagnostic tester -VAS 5052- shows the identification of the control unit and the coding -2-. Wait for the complete display of the control unit identification and print it out. Switch off the ignition. Raise the floor mat in the footwell on the left. Remove securing bolts -arrow- for covers. Remove cover. Remove fuse board -3-.
Unscrew bolts -arrow- and carefully remove bracket for control unit.
Carefully remove engine control unit -1- and press retainers -4- in direction of arrow -see illustration. next figure-.

Unlock plug connector on engine control unit and disconnect plug connector.
Installation
Installation in reverse order. Adapt immobilizer to diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- (otherwise the car will not start). Code the new engine control unit. cruise control system (identifiable on the steering column switch) freely switched in the engine control unit. The diagnostic tester -VAS 5052- must be used.
In mode "Guided Fault Finding" select button "Transition", "Choice of functions/components", "Drive unit", "Engine code", "01 Self-diagnostic systems", "Functions", "J248 23 SG for Diesel Direct Injection", "Replacing the control unit".
Vehicles with automatic gearbox 085 DS: Carry out basic setting of clutch travel sender -G162- on slave cylinder. Self-diagnosis of the 5-speed gearbox 085 DS. Carry out basic setup.
